Abstract
The article defines the role of the government in maintaining sustainable growth, ensuring socio-economic security and improving the well-being of citizens in an open economy. The main factors contributing to the growth of the national economy in the long-term perspective are examined, among them are the increase in the economy's competitiveness through ensuring macroeconomic stability, promoting infrastructure and product market development, supporting the R&D, education and healthcare, as well as controlled development of the financial sector. The current state, the involvement of the government and its tasks in each sphere are determined. The advantages that arise as a result of the country's participation in the world economy in terms of sustainable growth are listed and the role of the government in creating opportunities in foreign markets and protecting national interests is analyzed.
