Abstract
Many elements of the Chinese national system of innovation (NSI) have been formed with regard to the U.S. experience. But the Chinese NSI is substantially different from the American one and China still largely lacks capability to generate indigenous innovations. The aim of the paper is twofold: to investigate the U.S. role in the Chinese NSI and to analyze the main channels China uses to borrow, including the industrial espionage, i.e. the theft of American intellectual property.
