- Abstract
- The United States, who despite the officially allied character of occupation, carried out it virtually alone, faced a difficult task of elimination of military threat from Japan, conversion it into second rate country, and complete eradication of militarism, which was the source of Japanese aggression. The achievement of these tasks started with disarmament and demobilization of Japanese army which was successfully and completely achieved by Japanese themselves under American control. More challenging was the problem of the return of Japan to peaceful life, and democratization of the country.
