Abstract
The article examines the world of repatriates in Kazakhstan from a specific theoretical perspective elaborated on the critique of some of the established approaches in the social sciences. Rethinking the categories of actor-network theory (B. Latour, M. Callon), the concept of identity (e.g., its understanding from N. Luhmann’s position of radical functionalism), and the classic sociological views of taste (P. Bourdieu), we propose a new conceptual frame for the analysis of the case that integrates elements of M. Merleau- Ponty’s philosophy, L. Thevenot’s sociology of régimes d’engagement, and A. Hennion’s sociology of taste and attachment.
