Abstract

The results of the midterm elections in the U.S. on November 6, 2018 are analyzed. Following the elections, the Democratic Party managed to establish control over the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress and noticeably increased Democratic governors, although in general the number of Republican governors still exceeds the number of Democratic governors. Republicans retained control of the U.S. Senate, increasing the number of Republican senators to 52, which created a situation of “divided gov-ernment” for the next two years. Past historical experience shows that the situation of “divided govern-ment” leads to paralysis and dysfunctions in the work of the federal government. At the same time, his position in the Republican Party was strengthened by D. Trump, since both supporters of Republicans and the leadership of the Republican Party made it obvious that Trump’s departure, especially involuntary, from the political arena would almost certainly turn into the collapse of the Republican Party itself.
