Abstract
North Korea today has become an object for geopolitical rivalry, first of all, between USA and China. Should DPRK disappear from the world map that would mean not only the revision of the World War II results, but a tangible success for USA in checking the growing Chinese expansionism. Russia should recognize the choice and decide - what is more desirable for it: a Korean unification on South Korean terms, a radical change in strategic and military balance on the Far East or a status-quo, implying the need to preserve North Korean statehood. Russia should design its policy on the presumption of stable hereditary power transition in DPRK and has no choice but to maintain good relations with Pyongyang. However, it is necessary to stop North Korean nuclear and missile proliferation activity.
