- Abstract
- Although in the 1960s the US and the USSR managed to draft binding conventions on diplomatic relations, the last ten years have seen a crisis of communication, with the absence of direct dialogue, closed consular and other missions, expelled diplomats, ‘visa wars’, and ‘isolation’ of diplomatic staff. The author identifies the root causes of the degrading diplomatic interaction between Russia and the US, analyses their symptoms, and assesses the prospects for change after Donald Trump having won the Presidential election in November 2024.
