- После окончания холодной войны стратегия национальной безопасности США претерпела значительную эволюцию в доктринальных установках, которые декларировали сменявшие друг друга американские администрации. Когда во второй половине 2010-х годов провал попыток интегрировать Россию и Китай в американоцентричный миропорядок стал очевиден, в политике США возобладал конфронтационный подход в отношениях с этими государствами. Соперничество с Россией и Китаем, которые в американском политическом дискурсе именуются великими державами, во многом определяет суть стратегии США в настоящее время. Однако, как показывают внешнеполитические дискуссии, «либерал-интервенционисты» и консерваторы-прагматики существенно расходятся в том, что касается американского участия в мировых делах. Исход этого спора повлечёт за собой далеко идущие последствия для формирования стратегии США после президентских выборов 2024 года, на которых победил Д. Трамп.
