- Abstract
- The article is devoted to a not too well known aspect of the French thinker's heritage. During his trip to the United States A. de Tocqueville visited the borders of the American civilization around the Great Lakes area. On the basis of his personal impressions from the trip de Tocqueville renounced European stereotypes of the Indians, pioneers, the nature of colonization and tried to define the role and significance of the Frontier in the development of the democracy, of the State and the Nation.
