Abstract
The article is prepared with financial support of the President of the Russian Federation Grant Program for the loading research schools of the Russian Federation. In the spring of 1945 the US Army took part in the liberation of the Czechoslovak Republic. It's units occupied a territory in Western Bohemia, which became a part of the American zone. Until December 1945 a separate Army Corps was placed in it, which had to perform some tasks to overcome the negative consequences of the war. The article focuses on the main activities of the US military forces in Czechoslovakia: caring for refugees and German prisoners of war, their evacuation from the country, maintaining order, managing of local administration, assisting in recovery of economic activities. It highlights main problems of the US Army during its staying in western Czechoslovakia. The author considers the US military command and diplomatic representatives activities in conflict situations in interaction with the Czecho-slovakian government, local authorities and population. He emphasizes difference in Americans' perception of the German and Czech populations, in treatment and interaction with them, their response to the actions of the US military. The article is based on documentary sources from the US National Archives and the Library of Congress.
