In early June heads of three key departments dealing with Canadian foreign policy delivered speeches that served as statement of principles and directions. The first and the main address "A New Foreign Policy Vision for Canada" was given by Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland. Twenty-four hours later Defence Minister H. Sajjan presented the long-awaited Defence paper "Strong, Secure, Engaged. Canada's Defence Policy". Finally, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie M. Bibeau revealed the new "Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy". Experts saw here an integrated approach- involving defence, foreign policy, and development which was crafted in large part by Chrystia Freeland. This article looks at the main points of Ch. Freeland's statement, exposes economic and political motives of the decision-makers and analyses the assessments of the analytics and media.
