Abstract
The complex of current problems of Russian-American relations is considered in the article in the context of the 2016 election campaign and the role played by the Russian factor in it and in the subsequent relations of the elected president with the Congress. The statements of D. Trump on a numberof topical issues on the international agenda, made by him during the election campaign, are analyzed. The acute reaction to the assessments of the state of affairs and proposals of the U.S. European allies in this regard, as well as the reasons for interest to D. Trump from Russian politicians and the expert community and some other aspects of the current international situation, are separately considered. The phenomenon of D. Trump in the American political process, as well as the reasons for the deep split in the Washington establishment and in the part of the elite whose interests he represents are analysed. The analysis of the factual material used in the article makes it possible to get an idea of the reasons why the first 100 days of the Trump's presidency were marked by an adjustment of intentions towards a return to the position more prevalent in the United States in recent years.
