Abstract
The availability of guns, the amount of which exceeds the population of the United States, causes significant human and economic losses. Frequent cases of massive bloodshed lead to a public outcry and the majority of Americans stand for more restrictive gun control measures. This does not happen, on the contrary, there has been a setback and the initiative is in the hands of the armed minority, organizations and politicians, who successfully lobby private gun ownership, open carry and turnover of guns. The article is devoted to the problems of private gun ownership and the history of formation and activities of the National Rifle Association as the leading pro gun lobbyist in the USA.
