Abstract

The results of a survey of the northern municipal districts of Eastern Siberia residents (N = 1358) regarding their preferences for modern political parties are analyzed. Based on the results of field studies processed using elements of the "stochastic modeling" technology, a sample of the main predictors included in the multifactorial models of electoral preference of voters was identified. It has been established that in this territory, the relationship between the age of the voter and his/her preferences for a particular party appears more clearly through other predictors. The strongest influence on electoral preferences is exerted by the gender and field of respondent’s activity. Men are inclined to choose the Communist Party of the Russian Federation or "other parties", more than half of the women surveyed are inclined to favor United Russia, industrial workers are much less likely to support United Russia. The revealed patterns can be explained to a large extent by the contrast between Soviet times, when the settlements in this region were industrial centers with good socio-economic infrastructure, and post-Soviet times, when the regional settlements became depressed and sometimes abandoned.
